Superman Returns in 3D

Burbank, CA, – The eagerly anticipated Bryan Singer helmed ‘Superman Returns’ will be the first 2D film to be projected with select segments in 3D playing on IMAX screens internationally.

The movie was originally shot in 2D, meaning it only existed as a single view-point. To convert the film into IMAX 3D, a second view-point, or “second eye” had to be created.Superman Returns: an IMAX 3D Experience will be the world’s first live action feature to include select segments converted from 2D into IMAX®3D. Using IMAX’s revolutionary live action 2D to 3D conversion technology, approximately 20 minutes of the motion picture will be converted into 3D. The entire film will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience through the proprietary IMAX DMR® (digital re-mastering) technology.With crystal clear, larger than life 3D images, complemented by up to 14,000 watts of digital surround sound, audiences feel as though they are actually IN the movie, flying alongside the man of steel. Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth as an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all. Superman (Brandon Routh) also faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman’s bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.Warner Bros Pictures is releasing the Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey starrer on June 28th – two days earlier than originally scheduled for release according to Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution, Warner Bros.
